Rev. Katie Voigt
PastorI received my call to ministry when I was a freshman in college, but through prayer and discernment I came to understand that God had actually been planting a seed earlier than that, I just didn’t understand it until I got to college. I did my undergraduate work at Ripon College in Ripon, Wisconsin and from there went directly to seminary at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois. I started serving churches in the Northern Illinois Conference of The United Methodist Church in 2003 and was ordained in 2011.
I trust that Jesus Christ came that we might have life and have it more abundantly. In order to do that our Scriptural mandate is to love God and then to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. There are no limits on how we define neighbor, so as I read the text, we are taught that we are to love everyone. That can be a challenge in our very broken world today, but we come together as the church community to encourage one another and help each other when we struggle. As we work to make the love of Christ known in the world, we need to continue to think creatively with the Holy Spirit to go in new directions and to follow the call “to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” In my free time I enjoy nature photography (so I’m loving all these Forest Preserves!), theater, music, running, cross-stitch and Wisconsin sports! |
Debbie GilletteMusic DirectorMusic has always been my passion in life. It gives me much joy to not only lead worship with my musical gifts, but to help develop the musical gifts of the congregation from the youngest child to the seasoned singer in the the pew.
I received my Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from Michigan State University as well as further graduate study. An adjunct professor at Trinity International University in Deerfield, I maintain a full-time piano studio and serve as the President of the North Shore Music Teachers Association. My husband, Dave, and I treasure our large family. I enjoy traveling, gardening, biking, and cooking. |
Nicole HeylChoir DirectorNicole M. Heyl graduated from Purdue University in 2004 with a B.A. in Education. In her over fifteen years as an educator, she has been blessed to have taught children in early childhood, elementary, middle, and high school classrooms in both Lake County, IN and Lake County, IL. She currently is the Pre-K (4&5 year old classroom) teacher for the United Methodist Church of Antioch Preschool.
Since 2004, Nicole has enjoyed a myriad of musical leadership opportunities. She has held positions as a music and movement educator, vocal coach, choreographer, director and vocal director. She currently is an active performer and vocal director in community theatres throughout Northern Illinois and Southeastern, WI. Additionally, she sings and choreographs for the Riverport Chorus of Sweet Adelines International. Nicole joined the UMCA Music Ministry as the Chancel Choir Director in August of 2018. In January 2019, she worked alongside the youth of the congregation and Music Director, Debbie Gillette, to form the Youth Choir. She believes in the power of music in worship and encourages all to use the instrument that God instilled within us to bring the good news of His love. "Alone, we can affect a few. But together, we can change the world." - Jen Hatmaker. There is no place like a choir! |
Hannah TilmanOffice AssistantHello! My name is Hannah, and I am the new administrative assistant for the church! I have already met so many genuine people, and look forward to meeting more. In 2018, I moved from Colorado to Illinois and started work as a barista. That job really brought to light that I love getting to know and connect with people. After a few years working there, I got an opportunity to work as a receptionist at a vet clinic. This job taught me that I really enjoy supporting people. I’m excited to put everything I can into assisting/supporting the community around me, and providing support that furthers connections between people and the Lord.
As we get to know each other more, you’ll learn I love a lot of things. Travel, coffee, cats… Especially cats (I really really love cats). I love hearing and sharing stories, so please do not hesitate to stop in and say hello! |
Worship Basics
Sunday Morning worship services are traditional, yet informal. Our music combines well-known hymns with more modern praise choruses, usually accompanied by organ and piano, but often guitar, brass, and other instruments may be added to the mix. The message is based on scripture, relevant to today’s world, and provides a challenge to grow and live out our faith in our everyday lives. The dress code is come-as-you-are-comfortable. Holy Communion is served on the first Sunday of the month and is open to all, no matter the age or denominational affiliation.
